The 13th European Wood-Based Panel Symposium took place from 9 to 11 October 2024 at the Grand Elysée Hotel in Hamburg, Germany, welcoming 375 participants from over 30 countries.

Organised by the European Panel Federation (EPF) with support from the Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research (WKI), iVTH, and Hywax, the event offered 20 technical presentations covering market trends, resource efficiency, artificial intelligence, resin innovation, and recycling.

Session IV on Recycling, chaired by Fraunhofer WKI, focused on technological and commercial progress in MDF recycling. Presentations included Andritz AG’s approach to building flexible MDF plants, PAL S.r.l.’s insights on the commercial reality of MDF recycling, and a study by École Supérieure du Bois on fibreboard content in recovered wood in France.

The session also aligned with ongoing efforts under the EcoReFibre project, which was referenced during discussions on fibre recovery and circularity in the wood-based panel industry.

A technical exhibition and poster session complemented the programme. The next edition will be held from 14 to 16 October 2026.
