Animation | Closing the Loop on Post-Consumer Fibreboards
Recycling post-consumer fibreboards and wood waste into new fibreboards has only recently become feasible. Recovering fibres from post-consumer furniture, building materials, insulation, flooring, and packaging is challenging and requires accounting for coatings, glues, additives and resins. Adding to this, in the current linear market system wood waste collection is not always efficient and valuable materials too often end up in landfills or are burnt rather than recovered.
EcoReFibre is all about changing that, giving a second life and value to post-consumer fibreboard materials.
Transitioning from a linear to a circular economic model requires deep, systemic change: new technologies, infrastructure investment, cross-sector collaboration, and a supportive policy environment. It means rethinking how products are designed from the very start, with disassembly and recyclability at the core of the design. It means collaborating with policy makers and the wider sector for the definition of new regulations at local, regional, national and EU levels. New market models are already emerging along the value chain to valorise waste materials and open new opportunities for collaboration.
Created with the talented team at Manpaard Animation Studio, in collaboration with InnovaWood this animation offers a compelling overview of the EcoReFibre story.
It launches alongside our Strategic Roadmap: Unlocking Circularity and Market Potential from Wood Waste, a comprehensive resource mapping the path towards circular wood use in Europe, highlighting current developments, research and innovation as well as policy recommendations for wood and fibre recycling.
