Integrating recycled fibreboard fines in the surface layer of particleboard

EcoReFibre returns to the best-known recycling route for recovered wood: particleboard production. While this has long been one of the main material recovery pathways, the project looks at the use of recycled fibreboard fines in the surface layer of particleboard. The project tested substitution rates of 10%, 20% and 30%, with the industrial trial focusing […]

Results and recommendations from the Policy Conference “Unlocking Circularity and Market Potential from Wood Waste

EcoReFibre has shown that post-consumer fibreboard can be recovered and reused in the manufacture of new fibreboards. Hence, the technical barriers for horizontal recycling of fibreboard are no longer impeding true circularity. However, wider implementation now depends on whether these solutions can work at scale across the wood-based panel industry. The EcoReFibre Policy Conference held in Brussels on 25 March brought together more than 70 experts from policy, industry, research and other stakeholder perspectives to discuss what this requires in practice.

Recycling post-consumer fibres from wood waste into new insulation products

Wood fibre insulation boards are used in the building envelope to balance indoor temperatures, reduce energy consumption and improve comfort. EcoReFibre showed that recovered wood fibres can also be used in new insulation products. Using fibres from post-consumer fibreboard and solid wood waste, the project achieved promising results for rigid, flexible and loose fill insulation,
