World Conference on Timber Engeneering (WCTE)
Oslo, June 2023 – The Wood4Bauhaus Alliance took the spotlight at the WCTE 2023, where Uwe Kies, Secretary General of InnovaWood, delivered a keynote speech on timber’s role in sustainable construction.
Kies highlighted the Alliance’s support for the New European Bauhaus (NEB), which combines sustainability, beauty, and inclusion in design. He stressed that wood, as a natural and renewable material, can help cut carbon emissions, store carbon long-term, and support circular construction.
Under the theme “Timber for a Livable Future”, WCTE 2023 gathered over 1,200 experts from around the world. Kies called for stronger EU policies, more funding, and better education and training to help scale up the use of wood in construction.
The Wood4Bauhaus Alliance continues to connect science, industry, and policy, promoting timber as a key part of Europe’s move towards climate-friendly, resilient, and beautiful living spaces.
